Chemistry: Excellent Relationship: Friends Work Again: Negative Poon has been an actor for ATV forever (since the 1970s). In the 1990s, after he jump-shipped to TVB, most people thought he's just one of those old actors. Wrong, Poon is a successful business man. He is as rich as his characters in all four collaborations with Maggie. Poon retired from acting in 1998 and returned to Canada, where he resides with his wife. Lately, he's been back in HK only to visit friends. The Unexpected Poon's first pair-up with Maggie, as her triad father. It's the beginning of a beautiful dual performance. Maggie and Poon exert a special bond--the kind of the old saying, "even a tiger doesn't hurt his own blood." The scene where Maggie testify against her own father was marvelously brilliant in the faces of Poon and Maggie. Cold Blood Warm Heart Once again they play father-daughter. This time, the dad is the good one and the daughter is really the evil one. Although the nature of their relationship is different, there is that special bond again. Maggie doesn't have a good relationship with Poon here because she enjoys a wild life while her dad is an old-fashioned and upright banker. Despite their on-the-surface bickering, both parties care for each other. Poon shows it every time he sees Maggie. And Maggie shows it after he left her permanently. Once Upon A Time In Shanghai Before Poon and Maggie get type-cast for father-daughter pairing, they went on to pair as lovers. It was quite controversial when the series announced the cast. But so what? They're professional actors. Poon is a triad lord and Maggie is his vulnerable mistress, also his weapon to backfire his rival (since Maggie is his rival's love). It's simply beautiful. In other series they show their charm as father-daughter, here they show some provocative chemistry. Very interesting to watch. One of the most memorable scenes in the series is when Maggie spoke in public about how Poon proposed to her, Poon then approach the podium and kneel down to give her a suave kiss. One Good Turn Deserves Another This pairing is quite riveting and a little more controversial than last time. Here Poon played an entreunpener who picked up Maggie, then was a child, from the street. He trained her and well, apparently, slept with her. The disturbing fact is that she calls him "Uncle," yet engaged in very provocative gestures with him. But it was all in good time. Maggie knows she is only a puppet for him to pull illegal stunts. Well done for both. And Maggie herself said that in the filming process, Poon (along with Louisa So) act as her senior, who helped tutor her acting. |
